The meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, has ended, leaving behind a positive impression. A ceasefire in the war in Ukraine may not have been agreed upon, but the atmosphere between the two powerful players on the global geostrategic chessboard appeared (at least to the cameras) to be particularly friendly.
Something that the Western media, of course, did not want to acknowledge, characterizing this meeting as a “failure”. And of course there are reasons for this, which Putin “threw out like nails” during the press conference.
Putin’s 3 key statements at the press confernce after the meeting
- Putin’s phrase during his opening greeting to Trump, that he is “glad that he is in good health and alive” is impressive! Unless it is a mistake or misinterpretation by the translator – unfortunately, we do not know enough Russian to verify whether Putin actually said the phrase “I am glad you are alive”. It is not easy to interpret such a sentence. What was the Russian president referring to? The assassination attempts against Trump? Let’s not forget that presidents and prime ministers of states, after a serious incident, send official telegrams to their counterpart or make relevant announcements.
Or was he implying that Trump may be in danger in the future, as there are many who do not see a relatively friendly relationship between America and Russia with a positive eye? - “Russian national interests, security interests”. History has shown that in peace negotiations you give something, you get something. It is still too early to understand to what extent the Russian president is willing to make concessions and what kind of concessions. From what he said, however, the part of his country’s national security will probably be difficult or non-negotiable, when he has NATO and the major European countries behind him to arm Ukraine.
- Something he said directly and without innuendo later in his speech. “I hope that Kiev and the European capitals will see this meeting positively and not try to create obstacles and provocations.” Apart from the continuous economic sanctions that the EU has imposed on Russia, which European citizens are paying dearly for, with the inflation having reached unprecedented levels, let us not forget that European directives (laws) oblige EU member states to continously support Ukraine financially and with military equipment. And for those who know a little about law, a European law towards EU member states has superior force than the corresponding national law.

“President Trump, ladies and gentlemen, our talks were constructive, we had mutual respect. These were very helpful at substancial talks. Once again, thanks to my American counterpart colleague for his invitation to come to Alaska, it’ so quite a reasonable decision to meet here. Our countries are divided by oceans but in fact we are close neighbors in ways because when i stepped down from the plane, i said good afternoon my neighbor, I am so happy to see you in good health and alive.
In fact there are two islands between Russian and American island, only 4 kilometers, so we are close neighbors,
Also Alaska ties us through mutual history. Our two countries, Russia and United States have many possitive events that tires us together. There is a lot cultural heritage here from the russian-american period. There are Orthodox churches, topological names that carry russian legacy. In fact it was through here (Alaska) that some of the military equipment that came to Russia to the Soviet Union in the lend lease programme and our specialists from both sides, drivers and military man risk everything to help us. There is in fact a monument to air pilots from America and Soviet Union who gave up their lives to make sure that victory was possible.
That legacy will help us restore our ties build on mutual rspect even in this difficult circumstances…
So russian-american meetings, high level meetings, haven’t been held for a long period of time, 4 years, and this was a tough period for both of our countries. We did a lot of work, our teams to prepare for this meeting, me and president Trump has had very good direct contacts over the phone…
One of the key issues for us was to resolve the issue the conflict with Ukraine and we are seeing that President Trump is personally involved to resolve that, understanding the in depth reasons for that conflict. As I have said in multiple occassions this has to do with russian national interests, security interests. We have always seen Ukraine as brother nation and we have the same roots. That is why this is a tragedy for us also. Russia is interesting of putting an end to this conflict.
This settlement must be stable and that requires us to address all the reasons for the conflict and making sure that all the russian interests are taking to account. President Trump said that Ukraine’s security must be respected and we will continue to work on that.
I am sure the understanding that we have reached today will help us open the path to peace in Ukraine and i hope that in Kiev and in european capitals they will hear that and see it in a positive way and will not try to create obsticles or create provocations and undermine the progress that we can achieve here…“.
Will Europeans continue to pay the “price” in the russian-ukrainian conflict?
The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, made a post on the X platform referring to the communication he had with President Trump and other European leaders after the end of the Trump-Putin meeting.
Zelensky announced that will be meeting President Trump on Monday in D.C.
Also he did not forget to umderline that Europe or EE must be involved “at every stage to to ensure reliable security guarantees together with America”

Ολοκληρώθηκε η συνάντηση του Αμερικανού Προέδρου Ντόναλντ Τραμπ και του Ρώσου ομόλογου του Βλαντιμιρ Πούτιν στο Anchorage της Αλάσκας, αφήνοντας πίσω του μία θετική αίσθηση. Μπορεί να μην συμφωνήθηκε η κατάπαυση του πυρός για τον πόλεμο στην Ουκρανία, ωστόσο το κλίμα μεταξύ των δύο ισχυρών παικτών της παγκόσμιας γεωστρατηγικής σκακιέρας έδειξε (τουλάχιστον στις κάμερες) ότι ήταν ιδιαίτερα φιλικό.
Κάτι βέβαια που δεν θέλησαν να αναγνωρίσουν τα δυτικά ΜΜΕ χαρακτηρίζοντας την συνάντηση αυτή, ως “αποτυχημένη”. Και φυσικά υπάρχουν λόγοι για αυτό, τους οποίους ο Πούτιν “πέταξε ώς καρφιά” κατά τη διάρκεια της συνέντευξης Τύπου.
- Εντύπωση προκαλεί η φράση του Πούτιν κατά τον εναρκτήριο χαιρετισμό του προς τον Τραμπ, ότι “χαίρεται που είναι καλά στην υγεία του και ζωντανός”! Εκτός κι αν πρόκειται για κάποιο λάθος ή παρερμηνεία του μεταφραστή – δυστυχώς δε γνωρίζουμε ρωσικά για να εξακριβώσουμε αν ο Πούτιν όντως είπε τη φράση “χαίρομαι που είσαι ζωντανός”. Δεν είναι εύκολο να ερμηνευτεί μία τέτοια πρόταση. Πού αναφερόταν ο πρόεδρος της Ρωσίας; Στις απόπειρες δολοφονίας εναντίον του Τραμπ; Μην ξεχνάμε ότι οι πρόεδροι και πρωθυπουργοί κρατών, μετά από κάποιο σοβαρό περιστατικό σε ομόλογό τους αποστέλλουν επίσημα τηλεγραφήματα ή κάνουν σχετικές ανακοινώσεις.
Ή μήπως υποννούσε ότι ο Τραμπ μπορεί να κινδυνέψει μελλοντικά, καθώς είναι αρκετοί αυτοί που δεν βλέπουν με καλό μάτι μία σχετικά φιλική σχέση μεταξύ Αμερικής-Ρωσίας;- “russian national interests, security interests”. Η Ιστορία έχει δείξει ότι στις ειρηνευτικές διαπραγματεύσεις κάτι δίνεις, κάτι παίρνεις. Είναι ακόμη πολύ νωρίς για να καταλάβουμε μέχρι ποιο σημείο είναι διατεθημένος ο Ρώσος πρόεδρος να προβεί σε παραχωρήσεις και τί είδους παραχωρήσεις. Εκ των λεγομένων του όμως μάλλον θα είναι δύσκολο το κομμάτι ή αδιαπραγμάτευτο το κομμάτι της εθνικής ασφάλειας της χώρας του, όταν στην πλάτη του έχει το ΝΑΤΟ και τις μεγάλες ευρωπαϊκές χώρες να εξοπλίζουν την Ουκρανία.
- Κάτι που το είπε ευθέως και χωρίς υποννοούμενα στη συνέχεια της ομιλίας του. “Εύχομαι το Κίεβο και οι ευρωπαϊκες πρωτεύουσες να δουν θετικά αυτή τη συνάντηση και να μην προσπαθήσουν τα δημιουργήσουν εμπόδια και προβοκάτσιες”. Πέρα από τις συνεχόμενες οικονομικές κυρώσεις που έχει επιβάλλει στη Ρωσία η ΕΕ, τις οποίες πληρώνουν ακριβά οι ευρωπαίοι πολίτες με την ακρίβεια να έχει φθάσει σε πρωτοφανή επίπεδα, ας μην ξεχνάμε ότι οι ευρωπαικές ντιρεκτίβες (νομοι) υποχρεώνουν τα κράτη-μέλη της ΕΕ να στηρίζουν οικονομικά και με πολεμικό υλικό την Ουκρανία. Και για όσους γνωρίζουν λίγο από νομικά, ένας ευρωπαικός νόμος προς τα κράτη μέλη της ΕΕ έχει ανώτερη ισχύ από τον αντίστοιχο εθνικό νόμο.
Θα συνεχίσουν οι Ευρωπαίοι να πληρώνουν το «τίμημα» στη ρωσο-ουκρανική σύγκρουση;
Ο Πρόεδρος της Ουκρανίας, Βολοντίμιρ Ζελένσκι, έκανε μια ανάρτηση στην πλατφόρμα X αναφερόμενος στην επικοινωνία που είχε με τον Πρόεδρο Τραμπ και άλλους Ευρωπαίους ηγέτες μετά το τέλος της συνάντησης Τραμπ-Πούτιν.
Ο Ζελένσκι ανακοίνωσε ότι θα συναντηθεί με τον Πρόεδρο Τραμπ τη Δευτέρα στην Ουάσινγκτον.
Επίσης, δεν ξέχασε να υπογραμμίσει ότι η Ευρώπη ή η ΕΕ πρέπει να εμπλέκεται «σε κάθε στάδιο για να διασφαλίσει αξιόπιστες εγγυήσεις ασφάλειας μαζί με την Αμερική».
«Είχαμε μια μακρά και ουσιαστική συζήτηση με τον @POTUS». Ξεκινήσαμε με κατ’ ιδίαν συνομιλίες πριν προσκαλέσουμε τους Ευρωπαίους ηγέτες να συμμετάσχουν μαζί μας. Αυτή η κλήση διήρκεσε περισσότερο από μιάμιση ώρα, συμπεριλαμβανομένης περίπου μίας ώρας διμερούς συνομιλίας μας με τον Πρόεδρο Τραμπ.
Η Ουκρανία επιβεβαιώνει την ετοιμότητά της να εργαστεί με τη μέγιστη δυνατή προσπάθεια για την επίτευξη ειρήνης. Ο Πρόεδρος Τραμπ ενημέρωσε για τη συνάντησή του με τον Ρώσο ηγέτη και τα κύρια σημεία της συζήτησής τους. Είναι σημαντικό η δύναμη της Αμερικής να έχει αντίκτυπο στην εξέλιξη της κατάστασης.
Υποστηρίζουμε την πρόταση του Προέδρου Τραμπ για τριμερή συνάντηση μεταξύ Ουκρανίας, ΗΠΑ και Ρωσίας. Η Ουκρανία τονίζει ότι τα βασικά ζητήματα μπορούν να συζητηθούν σε επίπεδο ηγετών και ότι μια τριμερής μορφή είναι κατάλληλη για αυτό.
Τη Δευτέρα, θα συναντηθώ με τον Πρόεδρο Τραμπ στην Ουάσινγκτον, για να συζητήσουμε όλες τις λεπτομέρειες σχετικά με τον τερματισμό των δολοφονιών και του πολέμου. Είμαι ευγνώμων. για την πρόσκληση.
Είναι σημαντικό οι Ευρωπαίοι να συμμετέχουν σε κάθε στάδιο για να διασφαλίσουν αξιόπιστες εγγυήσεις ασφαλείας μαζί με την Αμερική. Συζητήσαμε επίσης θετικά μηνύματα από την αμερικανική πλευρά σχετικά με τη συμμετοχή στην εγγύηση της ασφάλειας της Ουκρανίας. Συνεχίζουμε να συντονίζουμε τις θέσεις μας με όλους τους εταίρους. Ρώσος πρόεδρος Βλαντίμιρ Πούτιν κατέθεσε λουλούδια στο νεκροταφείο Ρώσων στρατιωτών που έχασαν τη ζωή τους κατά τη διάρκεια του Β’ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου στο Εθνικό Νεκροταφείο Fort Richardson της Αλάσκας, λίγες ώρες μετά τη συνάντησή του με τον Πρόεδρο των ΗΠΑ Ντόναλντ Τραμπ.
