A GALA PREVIEW OF THE MOST ANTICIPATED GREEK FEATURE FILM IN RECENT YEARS
The Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) is excited to announce an exclusive preview screening of the highly anticipated film Stelios (Υπάρχω)—a cinematic tribute to the legendary Greek singer Stelios Kazantzidis. This special event offers an exclusive first look at the powerful and emotional journey of one of Greece’s most beloved musical icons.
Stelios narrates the extraordinary life of Stelios Kazantzidis, tracing his rise from humble beginnings as the child of a Pontic refugee family to his transformation into one of Greece’s most revered voices. The film explores his struggles, triumphs, and the indelible mark he left on Greek music and culture.
This one-of-a-kind screening will also feature a special on-screen appearance by renowned artist Christos Mastoras, whose contemporary musical influence continues to honour and celebrate the legacy of Kazantzidis. Mastoras, an acclaimed singer and performer, will share his reflections on the impact of Kazantzidis’ music and how it continues to inspire new generations of artists and audiences alike.
Jorge Menidis, Director of the Greek Centre, emphasized the significance of this screening, stating:
“Stelios Kazantzidis’ impact on the cultural landscape of 20th-century Greece is immense—especially for the generations of immigrants and their descendants in the diaspora. His inspiring story is intertwined with the magic of his soulful popular music. We are thrilled that our friends at Palace have given us the opportunity to host this special screening ahead of the film’s official release.”
The event includes pre- and post-show drinks, a light supper, and a post-show performance of Kazantzidis’ music by Melbourne’s much-loved band, Anagennisi.
Stelios is another highlight in the GCM’s cultural calendar, which also features the renowned Antipodes Festival (22–23 February), the presentation of Opou Gis kai Patris 2 (14–15 March, Kew HS Theatre), and Comedy at the Greek (26 March).

ΜΙΑ ΛΑΜΠΕΡΗ ΠΡΕΜΙΕΡΑ ΤΗΣ ΠΙΟ ΑΝΑΜΕΝΟΜΕΝΗΣ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗΣ ΤΑΙΝΙΑΣ ΤΩΝ ΤΕΛΕΥΤΑΙΩΝ ΕΤΩΝ
Η Ελληνική Κοινότητα Μελβούρνης (EKM) έχει τη χαρά να ανακοινώσει μια αποκλειστική προβολή της πολυαναμενόμενης ταινίας Στέλιος (Υπάρχω) – ενός κινηματογραφικού αφιερώματος στον θρυλικό Έλληνα τραγουδιστή Στέλιο Καζαντζίδη. Αυτή η ξεχωριστή εκδήλωση προσφέρει μια μοναδική πρώτη ματιά στη συγκλονιστική ζωή ενός από τους πιο αγαπημένους καλλιτέχνες της Ελλάδας.
H ταινία Στέλιος αφηγείται τη συναρπαστική διαδρομή του Καζαντζίδη, από ταπεινές καταβολές ως παιδί προσφύγων του Πόντου μέχρι τη μεταμόρφωσή του σε μία από τις πιο εμβληματικές φωνές της Ελλάδας. Η ταινία αναδεικνύει τις δοκιμασίες, τις επιτυχίες και την ανεξίτηλη σφραγίδα που άφησε στη μουσική και τον πολιτισμό.
Αυτή η μοναδική προβολή θα περιλαμβάνει επίσης μια ειδική εμφάνιση στην οθόνη από τον καταξιωμένο καλλιτέχνη Χρήστο Μάστορα, ο οποίος συνεχίζει να τιμά και να διαδίδει την κληρονομιά του Καζαντζίδη. Ο Χρήστος Μάστορας, ένας από τους πιο δημοφιλείς σύγχρονους ερμηνευτές, θα μοιραστεί τις σκέψεις του για τη διαχρονική επιρροή του Καζαντζίδη και το πώς η μουσική του συνεχίζει να εμπνέει νέες γενιές καλλιτεχνών και ακροατών.
Ο Γιώργος Μενίδης, Διευθυντής του Ελληνικού Κέντρου, τόνισε τη σημασία αυτής της προβολής:“Η συνεισφορά του Στέλιου Καζαντζίδη στο ελληνικό μουσικό και πολιτιστικό τοπίο του 20ού αιώνα είναι τεράστια – ακόμα περισσότερο για τις γενιές των μεταναστών και των απογόνων τους στη διασπορά. Η ζωή του είναι μια ιστορία γεμάτη δύναμη και συναίσθημα, συνυφασμένη με τη μαγεία της λαϊκής μουσικής του. Είμαστε ενθουσιασμένοι που οι φίλοι μας στο Palace μας προσφέρουν αυτήν την ξεχωριστή ευκαιρία να προβάλλουμε την ταινία πριν από την επίσημη κυκλοφορία της”.
Η εκδήλωση περιλαμβάνει αφεψήματα πριν και μετά την προβολή, ελαφρύ δείπνο, καθώς και ζωντανή μουσική εμφάνιση με τραγούδια του Καζαντζίδη από το αγαπημένο συγκρότημα στην Μελβούρνη Αναγέννηση.
Η ταινία αποτελεί μέρος του πολιτιστικού προγράμματος της ΕΚΜ, το οποίο περιλαμβάνει επίσης το Φεστιβάλ Αντίποδες (22-23 Φεβρουαρίου), την παράσταση Όπου Γης και Πατρίς 2 (14-15 Μαρτίου, Kew HS Theatre) και το Comedy at the Greek (26 Μαρτίου).
