At least 11 people are dead and at least five seriously wounded after the gun assault at an adult education center west of Stockholm.
According to Police chief Roberto Eid Forest, for the city of Orebro there was “a lot to indicate that” the gunman had shot himself, saying he was found already dead when police reached him.
So far the gunman’s motive hadn’t been determined.
Orebro’s Police announcement
English version:
Eleven people have been found dead.
Six adult patients are being treated in hospital. All operated patients are now stable.
Not all of the deceased have been fully identified, but intensive work is still ongoing.
We also continue with intensive investigative work to understand the circumstances surrounding the perpetrator and try to create the image of whether more people are involved. We will return to the motive behind the shooting later.
The perpetrator is previously unknown to the Police Authority.
When the police arrive at the scene, they hear that the shooting is in progress. The police are also initially shot at. When the search is carried out in the premises, the shooter is found dead.
Our goal is to build a robust investigation. Something that is very important right now is that we get help from anyone who has information, pictures, videos or other information from the scene yesterday. With the help of all that, we can create a better overall picture that we need for our continued investigative work.
So were you at school yesterday, we want to talk to you. If you have films, we would like to see them. Contact us on 114 14.
Something that everyone can take responsibility for is only spreading confirmed information. Rumors and speculation are something that only create more anxiety in an already anxious time.
We work closely with the region of Örebro and Örebro municipality regarding the safety-creating work and to ensure that this will not happen again. We also work with psychosocial care for our own staff who were involved in an extreme situation. Well over a hundred employees were involved in the incident in various ways.
Six police officers had to go to hospital after inhaling smoke in connection with the development of smoke inside the school. They have been allowed to leave the healthcare system and are doing well.
