Every year, since 1947, the people of Norway have given the people of London a Christmas tree. This gift is in gratitude for Britain’s support for Norway during World War II, with the tree to symbolises the close friendship between the people of Norway and Britain.
And every year this Christmas tree is being placed to Trafalgar Square’s and waits to be enlighted with the traditional ceremony that typically takes place on the first Thursday in December.
However, this year, Londoners haven’t been particularly pleased with the Christmas tree, judging by the comments on the X platform.
“Cactus”, “corn”, “cheap” are just some of the comments.
In fact, many Britons compared the Christmas tree in the Trafalgar Square to other festive trees, for example the one at Rockefeller Center.
