A court in Valais has decided to release Jacques Moretti, co-owner with his wife of the Le Constellation bar, where 40 people died and 116 others were injured in a deadly fire on New Year’s Eve.
The court’s decision was announced on Friday (23/01) with Moretti having to pay bail of 200,000 Swiss francs (about 215,000 euros). The court also banned Jacques Moretti from leaving the country, as well as from surrendering his passport and identity card. It should be noted that his wife, Jessica Moretti, remains free under restrictive measures.

This decision has caused strong reactions from the families of the victims. Italian Carla Masiello, who lost her son in the deadly fire, called Moretti’s release a “scandal: “I can’t understand why he was released. It’s a scandal”.
Romain Jordan, lawyer of victims’ families, comment: “The risk of collusion is still there”, a view shared by many relatives also.

Ελεύθερος με εγγύηση ο Jacques Moretti – Για σκανδαλώδη απόφαση μιλούν οι συγγενείς των θυμάτων
Το δικαστήριο στο Βαλαί αποφάσισε την αποφυλάκιση του Jacques Moretti, συνιδιοκτήτης με τη σύζυγό του του μπαρ Le Constallation, στο οποίο πέθαναν 40 άνθρωποι και τραυματίστηκαν άλλοι 116 από τη φονική πυρκαγιά την παραμονή της Πρωτοχρονιάς.
Η απόφαση του δικαστηρίου ανακοινώθηκε την Παρασκευή (23/01) με τον Moretti να καταβάλει εγγύηση το ποσό των 200.000 ελβετικών φράγκων (περίπου 215.000 ευρώ). Επίσης το δικαστήριο απαγόρευσε στον Jacques Moretti την έξοδο από την χώρα, όπως και να παραδώσει το διαβατήριο και την ταυτότητά του. Να σημειωθεί ότι σύζυγός του, Jessica Moretti, παραμένει ελεύθερη υπό περιοριστικά μέτρα.
Η απόφαση αυτή έχει προκαλέσει έντονες αντιδράσεις στις οικογένειες των θυμάτων. Η Ιταλίδα Carla Masiello, η οποία έχασε τον γιο της στην φονική πυρκαγιά, χαρακτηρίζει την απελευθέρωση του Moretti ως “σκάνδαλο”: “Δεν μπορώ να καταλάβω γιατί αφέθηκε ελεύθερος. Είναι ένα σκάνδαλο”.
Ο δικηγόρος πολλών οικογενειών των θυμάτων, Ρομέν Ζορντάν, δήλωσε ότι «Ο κίνδυνος συμπαιγνίας εξακολουθεί να υπάρχει», μία άποψη που επίσης πιστεύουν πολλοί συγγενείς.
