Shocking new footage has surfaced showing the rapid spread of the fire inside the Le Constellation bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans Montana during the early hours of New Year’s Day (January 1, 2026).

The videos, captured by patrons on their phones, depict flames quickly engulfing the ceiling as partygoers continue filming amid growing panic.
At least 40 people lost their lives in the blaze, which has plunged Switzerland into national mourning, with victims including international tourists from several countries.
The fire broke out shortly after midnight celebrations, around 1:30 a.m. local time, in the basement venue packed with hundreds of revelers.

Witnesses described how some individuals heroically opened sliding doors to aid escapes, saving lives in the chaos. However, evacuation proved extremely challenging due to the narrow escape routes—only one alternative exit existed, with tight staircases leading to the street.Survivors recounted harrowing moments: one teenager told the BBC he sheltered from a “wall of heat” before attempting the stairs, eventually breaking a window with a table and kicking out the glass to escape. Another group described around 200 people rushing through narrow stairs in mere seconds, saying, “We were very lucky.”Le Constellation was a popular spot among young locals and tourists, often frequented by those aged 18-19, and one of the few venues in the resort allowing entry for those over 16.

It was described on the Crans-Montana tourism site as an “elegant space” with a “festive atmosphere.

“The bar is owned by Jacques Moretti and his wife Jessica, a French couple of Corsican origin, who opened it in December 2015 after falling in love with the resort during a vacation.Among the 115 injured (many severely burned and transferred to hospitals in Lausanne, Geneva, Zurich, and even France and Italy), at least nine French nationals were hurt, with eight more unaccounted for, according to France’s foreign ministry.

Eyewitnesses pointed to sparklers as a possible cause: a common “performance” for VIP tables involving waitstaff carrying champagne bottles with small fireworks. One young man told Italian media he saw servers with bottles and sparklers “very close to the ceiling” before flames erupted suddenly.

H γρήγορη αντίδραση ορισμένων ανθρώπων που άνοιξαν τις συρόμενες πόρτες του μπαρ έσωσε ζωές. Το μπαρ έπιασε φωτιά λίγο μετά τους εορτασμούς της παραμονής της Πρωτοχρονιάς.
Η εκκένωση ήταν «πολύ δύσκολη», είπαν, επειδή η διαδρομή διαφυγής από την υπόγεια αίθουσα στην οποίο βρίσκονταν ήταν «στενή» και οι σκάλες που οδηγούσαν έξω ήταν «ακόμα πιο στενές». Αλλη οδός διαφυγής δεν υπήρχε.

Ανάμεσα τους τραυματίες είναι εννιά Γάλλοι, ενώ οκτώ ακόμη υπήκοοι Γαλλίας είναι άγνωστο τι απέγιναν, ανέφερε το Κε ντ’ Ορσέ χθες, ενώ ο επικεφαλής της ιταλικής διπλωματίας Αντόνιο Ταγιάνι ενημέρωσε πως κάπου «δεκαπέντε Ιταλοί» τραυματίστηκαν και περίπου ισάριθμοι αγνοούνται.
Πέντε τραυματίες από τους 112 δεν έχουν ταυτοποιηθεί, σημείωσε στο Γαλλικό Πρακτορείο ο πρεσβευτής της Ιταλίας Τζαν Λορέντζο Κορνάντο.
Οι αρχές προεξοφλούν πως ανάμεσα στους νεκρούς είναι πολλοί αλλοδαποί, αλλά ακόμη δεν έχουν δημοσιοποιήσει τα στοιχεία τους. Οι τραυματίες διακομίστηκαν σε διάφορα νοσοκομεία -στη Λοζάνη, στη Γενεύη, στη Ζυρίχη, αλλά και σε γειτονικές χώρες, στη Γαλλία και στην Ιταλία. Πολλοί συγγενείς ψάχνουν τους αγνοούμενους οικείους τους στα κοινωνικά δίκτυα.
Tα θύματα είναι πιθανό να είναι πολύ νεαρής ηλικίας, όπως αποδεικνύεται από τα πολυάριθμα βίντεο και φωτογραφίες που τραβήχτηκαν το μοιραίο βράδυ και κυκλοφόρησαν έκτοτε στα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης.
Οι εκτιμήσεις των αρχών είναι ότι η συντριπτική πλειονότητα των θυμάτων ήταν μεταξύ 15 και 25 ετών. Ηταν παιδιά που σε μεγάλο βαθμό γνωρίζονταν το ένα με το άλλο και απλώς γιόρταζαν στο στέκι τους την Πρωτοχρονιά.
Μάρτυρες δήλωναν μάλιστα ότι τα βεγγαλικά επρόκειτο για μια τακτική «παράσταση» στο κατάστημα, που προοριζόταν για πελάτες που έκαναν ειδικές παραγγελίες για τα τραπέζια τους. «Νομίζω ότι υπήρχαν μερικές κυρίες, σερβιτόρες, με μπουκάλια σαμπάνιας και μικρά βεγγαλικά. Ήταν πολύ κοντά στην οροφή και ξαφνικά έπιασε φωτιά», δήλωσε στο ιταλικό μέσο ενημέρωσης Local Team ένας νεαρός άνδρας που ήταν παρών τη στιγμή της πυρκαγιάς.
