Former French Prime Minister François Fillon has been found guilty in the fake job scam involving his wife Penelope, and his sentence has been reduced to four years in prison, a fine of 375,000 euros and a five-year ban on political rights, following the conclusion of a third trial ordered by the Court of Cassation.
On 22 May 2022, François Fillon, 71, was found guilty and sentenced to one year in prison, a fine of the same amount and a 10-year ban on political rights. The Court of Cassation later partially overturned the ruling, finding in particular that the prison sentence was not sufficiently justified.
