Jim Abrahams, writer director and mastermind behind legendary comedy movies as “Airplane!”, “Police Squad!”, “The Naked Gun” ext, died at the age of 80.
According to his son Joseph Abrahams, his father died on Tuesday (26/11) of natural causes at his home in Santa Monica.

Jim Abrahams was the mastermind behind comedy movies that had a huge box office success and most of all earned their place to the pantheon of “classic comedy movies” : “Airplane!” (1980) with Robert Hays, “The Naked Gun” with Leslie Nielsen, “Ruthless People” (1986) with DeVito & Betty Midler , “Top Secret” (1984) with Val Kilmer, “Hot Shots” (1991) with Charlie Sheen, “Big Business”(1988) with Betty Midler and
Lily Tomlin, and more. As for their commercial success for instance, “Airplane!” cost 3.5 million dollars and brought back 83.5 million dollars!
Together with the Zucker brothers, known as ZAZ, they redifine comedy on the big screen. One of their inspirations was to use in their films drama actors instead of comedians. Targeting on parody, satire and hilarious mad situations , Abrahams once told “Our instinct was always to watch a movie and say, ‘Isn’t’ that silly?”.
