Within the day, documents regarding the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963 will be released, as announced by US President Donald Trump.
As he announced, he will release today 80,000 pages of files regarding the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert and Martin Luther King in 1968.
Since the end of January, he had signed an order to declassify the files. At the end of November, he had pledged to release the last files classified “top secret” in the National Archives regarding the assassination of JFK.
According to the US president, the American people and the families of the victims deserve to know the truth and it is in the national interest to make them public.
However, in 2022 the National Archives released more than 13,000 documents, but the Biden administration had blocked the release of thousands of others, citing national security reasons.

Μέσα στην ημέρα θα δοθούν στη δημοσιότητα, όπως είχε προαναγγείλει ο πρόεδρος των ΗΠΑ, Ντόναλντ Τραμπ, έγγραφα για τη δολοφονία του Τζον Κέννεντι το 1963.
Όπως ανακοίνωσε ο ίδιος, θα δημοσιοποιήσει σήμερα αρχεία 80.000 σελίδων που αφορούν τις δολοφονίες του Τζον Κένεντι, του αδελφού του Ρόμπερτ αλλά και του Μάρτιν Λούθερ Κινγκ το 1968.
Από τα τέλη Ιανουαρίου είχε υπογράψει διάταγμα για τον αποχαρακτηρισμό των αρχείων. Στα τέλη Νοεμβρίου είχε δεσμευτεί ότι θα έβγαζε στο φως τους τελευταίους φακέλους με τη διαβάθμιση «άκρως απόρρητο» που υπάρχουν στα Εθνικά Αρχεία αναφορικά με τη δολοφονία του JFK.
Σύμφωνα με τον Αμερικανό πρόεδρο, αξίζει να μάθει ο αμερικανικός λαός και οι οικογένειες των θυμάτων την αλήθεια και είναι προς το εθνικό συμφέρον η δημοσιοποίησή τους.
Πάντως, το 2022 τα Εθνικά Αρχεία δημοσιοποίησαν περισσότερα από 13.000 έγγραφα, ωστόσο η κυβέρνηση Μπάιντεν είχε εμποδίσει τη δημοσιοποίηση χιλιάδων άλλων, επικαλούμενη λόγους εθνικής ασφαλείας.
