The Roman Catholic Church has a new Pope, after the white smoke came out at the end of the fourth vote which was completed on Thursday evening (08/05).
Thousands of faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square to see the new Pope, with their faces turned to the balcony of the palace.

According to the ritual, the cardinal announced to the crowd the “habemus Papam”. Cardinal Protodeacon Dominique Mamberti stepping out on the balcony announced that the Cardinals have elected the new Pope and then he announced the Pope’s name.




Then the cross appeared on the balcony and the Pope followed.


Robert Francis Prevost is the new Pope.Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was elected as the 267th Successor of Peter by the 133 Cardinal electors.
The new Pope, who was not among the favorites that had been proposed in the previous days, received the name Pope Leo XIV.

Pope Leo XIV is the first to be elected from North America, making history.

The new Pontiff, visibly moved, addressed the world in Italian.
