The mother of the American rapper Notorious B.I.G, who was murdered in Los Angeles in 1997, died at the age of 78. She was in palliative care in a residence in Pennsylvania and passed away of natural causes.
Born in Jamaica, Voletta Wallace gave birth in 1972 to her first and only son, Christopher Wallace, whom she had with Jamaican politician Selwyn George Latore. Voletta raised her son alone and accompanied him in his career as a rapper before his tragic death.
The Notorious B.I.G had notably paid tribute to his mother in music by mentioning her in some of his songs like Things Done Changed or the hit Juicy, for which Voletta Wallace also makes an appearance in the video.
Until her death, Voletta Wallace did not stop searching for her son’s murderers, demanding justice. As of 1997, this case remains essentially unsolved.
