Days after the arrest of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, investigators are trying to learn more about the motive for the murder of Charlie Kirk. According to Washington Post, Robinson has not confessed to authorities or cooperated with the investigation.
Robinson is expected to appear in state court on Tuesday (09/16). He is being held in a special unit at the Utah County Jail, without the possibility of release on bail. He is also expected to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
The charges he faces are aggravated murder, felony weapons charges and obstruction of justice, according to authorities.
A significant development is the discovery of a note from the perpetrator, which is being examined by the Police.According to new information shared by FBI Director Kash Patel, Robinson said he was going to ‘take out’ Kirk in a note written prior to the conservative’s murder.
Over the weekend, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said, among other things, that authorities were also investigating whether Robinson’s romantic relationship with his roommate — who was in the process of transitioning from male to female — was connected to the motive for the attack.
Judd Hoffman, vice president of social and gaming platform Discord, said Friday that there had been “communications between the suspect’s roommate and a friend after the attack, in which the roommate described the contents of a note the suspect had left elsewhere.”
Cox appeared to confirm the existence of the note in his interview with CNN, but said the note was still under review.
Meanwhile, Utah Attorney General Derek Brown has not yet announced whether authorities will seek the death penalty. On Friday, he said that “everything is on the table.”
It is noted that the death penalty is legal in Utah.
